Best Squat Stance (Based On Movement Anatomy and Joint Biomechanics) Everyone argues about the correct squat stance. Should I squat narrow or wide? Should I toe out with a squat or keep feet straight ahead? Many clinicians and trainers have you believe that it is all based on your anatomy. While that may be true to an extent...You are not a special snowflake and the biomechanics and movement anatomy will not change. You should create a squat stance which works with normal movement anatomy and squat biomechanics. Yes, this might mean narrowing your stance, dropping your weight, or elevating the heels. I understand if you are a powerlifter or Olympic lifter that you will have to lift with your feet on the ground (although lifters are a form of heel elevation). Does squatting with a wide stance or toe out position create problems? That's debatable and likely the answer is no! However, I can say that if you can squat in many different positions and not have a tendency to be pigeon holed into one squat stance then you are likely feeling much better from a joint/muscle tissue health perspective. Furthermore, based on biomechanics and anatomy of movement. There is an ideal squat stance we should be striving for!
