Sheng Long: The True Story Of Street Fighter’s Biggest Myth

Ever since Street Fighter 2’s 1991 arcade debut, fans have passed around rumors of Sheng Long, a super secret character that could only be unlocked by playing the game at the highest skill level. Sheng Long isn’t real, but the legend around Ryu and Ken’s master has stuck around for decades. This video dives into the origin and legacy of the Sheng Long myth. From a mistranslation, to an April Fools magazine article, to the inspiration for a real Street Fighter contender, it’s an incredible story that started off with a simple joke. We’re aiming to tell the definitive version here, so this video features current-day Street Fighter fans as well as Ken Williams, aka Sushi X, the man who created the Sheng Long hoax. As of the time of this video, the latest entry in the series is Street Fighter 6. You can pick it up on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
